Turn, turn, turn and say “thank you”

Fall has finally arrived—my favorite time of year. I love the way the light shines on the colorful foliage to change the certainty of green to hues of brilliant reds, vibrant oranges and soothing yellows. It’s a transitional time of year for us all, taking the tranquil, warm days of summer into the crisp, cool days of autumn. The slight coolness of the air is welcomed by layers of clothing to help keep the chill at bay. Often those layers are a reminder that the transition into winter is just ahead.

In the heart of the season is
Thanksgiving. It’s a time to
express our thanks to the people
who have embraced us with
open arms; provided
unconditional support, direction
and encouragement; helped
challenge us to keep us from
complacency and routine;
consoled us during economic
distress and uncertainty; and
welcomed and accepted change
without losing sight of the vision
when staying the course could
have been the easier path to
follow. “Thank you” is a simple
message—one that you never tire of or hear enough of
each and every day.

So to my friends and colleagues, I want to once again say thank you! My terms thus far as an ACA International executive officer and as your president have been humbling and rewarding experiences. As your president, I could not continue to move this association or industry without you. Everything you do matters to me, and I want to thank you for all you do! Your individual experiences, opinions and concerns collectively help move our association and industry forward, one step at a time. Together we make the difference, and for that I want to thank you.

Thank you to each of the nearly 5,000 ACA International members for your help keeping our industry healthy and intact by following your state and federal laws. Thank you for always bringing items of concern and interest to your state units, leadership and national committees. Most importantly, thank you for always reaching out and voicing your opinions.

Thank you to those who help our members lead the association: agency members in ACA’s 42 U.S. units and 64 countries, as well as members of the Affiliate Division, Asset Buyers Division, Creditors International Division and Members’ Attorney Program, who in turn support ACA’s officers, directors and committee volunteers. The invaluable time you spend serving and volunteering on behalf of your colleagues is the foundation of mentorship that spurs the growth needed to support our industry. Thank you for always providing me with unending hospitality during the unit meetings I attend and for your words of wisdom, concern and guidance.

For the members who serve on ACA’s 14 national committees, our subject matter experts who help develop our educational curriculum and our prestigious certified instructors: Giving back to those who have given to you is a big thank-you in itself. My thanks to you, too, for providing me with so much knowledge and expertise during my career thus far.
